Shakib Leads B'desh to T20 Tri-series Win Over Afghanistan



Shakib Al Hasan has helped Bangladesh break a streak of four losses in T20 against Afghanistan with a 4-wicket victory in the final league match of the tri-nation series in Chattogram.

He smashed an unbeaten 70-run innings at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Saturday to lead the Tigers reach the target of 139 runs for the victory with an over remaining.

Earlier, After winning the toss, the Bangladesh captain elected to bowl first. The openers started off brilliantly once again as they put 75 runs in the opening stand. But as soon as Afif Hossain came to bowl for the first time in this series, the visitors collapsed yet again. The youngster picked two wickets and bowled a double-wicket maiden over in his first over to changed the game around on its head.

Shakib also picked up the vital wicket of Mohammad Nabi, which was his 350th T20 wicket.

Shakib confidently dragged the team towards the target, but the equation for a victory was tough for Bangladesh as the hosts continued losing wickets in quick successions.

They needed 27 runs in the last 3 overs, with 2 more overs of Rashid Khan remaining after the young Afghan captain took 2 wickets in his previous 2 overs.

But in the 18th over, Rashid conceded 18 runs as Mosaddek Hossain (19 off 12) partnered with Shakib to seal the victory in the next over.
