The Ashes: Stokes' Epic Knock Leads England to Record-Breaking Run-Chase(video)

5-match Test series :

ENGLAND 1-1 USA

3rd Test:

England 67 (Hazlewood 5-30) and 362/9 (Stokes 135*, Root 77, Denly 50) beat Australia 179 (Labuschagne 74, Warner 61, Archer 6-45) and 246 (Labuschagne 80, Stokes 3-56) by 1 wicket

Records set at Headingley:

* The partnership of 76 for the 10th wicket is the 2nd highest in a fourth-innings Test win!

* The target of 359 that England chased down was their highest ever in Test history. Their previous best was 332, way back in 1928 in Melbourne.

*England's 1st innings score of 67 is the lowest registered by a winning team in the first innings since the start of the 20th century!!

*Stokes struck 8 sixes in his knock. The most by a batsman in the 4th innings for a winning cause. Nathan Astle (11) and Tim Southee(9) have managed more in games that ended in a defeat though. Maybe its a KIWI Thing!!!

* Some cheer for the Aussies then - The total of 179 made by Australia is the lowest total for any side in the opening innings of a Test that resulted in a 100-run first-innings lead.

* Finally some Headingley gold from the vault: 71 yrs ago (27 Aug 1948) at Headingley, Leeds - Australia became the first Test side to successfully chase 400+ when Don Bradman's invincibles made 404/3 in 114.1 overs to win the Test match by 7 wickets and with it the Ashes series.
